Farmhouse Cute

I've been a bit MIA in the blog world...oops!  Tomorrow marks my first day as a booth vendor and it's been a little crazy getting started.  Securing a trailer and a truck to get everything there proved to be the hardest part thus far, so I'm hoping to be able to buy my own soon!  I'll be at the Third Monday Trade Days in McKinney this weekend - so excited!

I've gotten quite a few pieces done in preparation for this weekend, but I want to focus on just one.  I had a lot of fun and some frustration with this baby!

(Remember, my photography skills are lacking!)
This is the finished piece.  Looks much better in person, I promise.

Here's the before shot.

I snagged this at a garage sale a few weeks ago for only $10.  It's a cute piece - solid wood, wire screens, cute little knobs.  Reminds me of a cute little farmhouse!

I cleaned it up with a vinegar and water mixture, removed the knobs, and got out my new tub of CeCe Caldwell's Maine Harbor Blue!

(I actually snapped this photo too soon.  I was excited to show my mom how pretty the blue was, so I took a picture while some of the paint was still wet and I hadn't painted the inside yet)
One coat of Maine Harbor Blue was followed by two coats of CeCe Caldwell's Vintage White.  What possessed me to do 2 coats, I don't know, lesson learned.

Next was the frustrating part.  I knew I wanted to distress the piece enough that the blue showed through in some places.  What I didn't realize is that 1) I had the wrong kind of sandpaper (who knew there were different kinds of sandpaper?  Seriously?   Like I don't have enough to keep up with?)  2)  I used too much white paint.  I sanded this baby for H.O.U.R.S.
By the time I finished, I had one VERY sore hand, white powder ALL over my living room, and an electric sander at the very top of my next birthday list!

But I got there!  I sanded just enough to show the blue in most places, and in a few places just a litte more to show the wood underneath.  I used CeCe Caldwell's Clear Wax to coat it (once my hand had recovered), using an old t-shirt.  The blue brightened up beautifully when mixed with the wax.  I LOVE CeCe Caldwell's paint!

I put a little blue paint on the knobs, and screwed them back in!  All done!
